About DKMS –

DKMS is an international charity dedicated to providing second chances at life for patients with blood cancer and blood disorders.

We sign people up to the stem cell register, provide second chances at life for those in need of a transplant, and raise funds to cover donor registration costs.

DKMS launched in the UK in 2013. We hold the biggest stem cell register in the UK with over one million registered stem cell donors, and we have helped to give over 2,500 people a second chance at life.

DKMS registers people aged between 17-55 years in general good health, but currently only 7% of the eligible UK population are registered, and of that 7% only 16% are from UK minority ethnic backgrounds. This means people from these communities who need a transplant face longer waits to find a matching stem cell donor.

That’s why we exist. The more people who register as potential stem cell donors, the more second chances at life we can give to people in need of a stem cell transplant.

Be the match someone’s waiting for...

How to register?

If you are aged 17-55 and in general good health you can register as a potential stem cell donor.

It takes roughly ten minutes to register, including three simple mouth swabs.

We will be registering people in person at:

Worthing store - 17 July, 10am – 4pm

Oxford store – 13 September, 10am – 4pm

Registering online –

If you are unable to join us at the in-person registration events, then you can order a swab kit to your home address by using the special Bird & Blend ‘become a donor’ button at the top of this page.

  • £15 helps us raise awareness, bringing hope to those with blood cancer and blood disorders
  • £40 could cover the full cost of adding a new potential lifesaver to the stem cell register
