Three-year-old Gustavs from Rugby is now two years post–stem cell transplant – and finally getting to enjoy the everyday things every child deserves.
His mum Baiba says:
“At first he was nervous around new people – he was so used to being prodded by doctors in hospital. But now every morning he wakes up asking, ‘When do I get to go to nursery?’ He loves it.”
For Baiba, these simple moments mean everything. There was a time when their family could only wait and hope for a donor.
That’s why she has a message for anyone thinking about joining the register:
“Please sign up and try. Maybe you’ll save someone’s life. One day for you could mean a lot more days for someone else.”
Now Gustavs is home with his big sister Hannah – and they’re back to doing what siblings do best: arguing and learning to share toys!
Because of a stem cell transplant, Gustavs gets the chance to grow up.
A simple decision from you could mean everything to a family still waiting for their match.
