Little Drop of Strength
A Little Drop of Strength necklace will feature as lot 20 at a jewellery auction, with an estimate of £80. We hope it will fetch a high price because all proceeds will go to DKMS to purchase more home swab kits to potential lifesavers-in-waiting. Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma and often a blood stem cell donation is the best treatment method to help give someone a second chance of life.
Social media influencer
Designer, social media influencer and DKMS ambassador, Sally Hurman was inspired to create the solid silver, teardrop-shaped pendant due to her very own personal connection to the cause following her husband’s diagnosis of blood cancer five years ago.
Sally, known to her social media audience by her handle, Getting Stuff Done in Heels, uses her platform to regularly encourage her 75,000+ followers to register with our charity.
Sally said: “I support DKMS as they work tirelessly to help people with blood cancer get a second chance of life through recruiting stem cell stem donors. Each year, around 2,000 people with blood cancer have to look outside their families to find their ‘genetic’ twin. I have seen with my own eyes how former patients meet their lifesaver. Last year, I was very honoured to attend a DKMS patient-donor meeting in Birmingham. It was truly inspiring to see such a special meeting which wouldn’t have happened without DKMS.”
Helping to tackle indiscriminate disease
In a rare move, the 144 year-old family-run business has decided to donate all proceeds, including all buyer’s premium and auction fees, to DKMS. Stephen Whittaker, Managing Director of Fellows Auctioneers said: “We feel incredibly privileged to offer this extremely meaningful piece of jewellery to auction. Often, jewellery is symbolic but this is something else – has been crafted with love and its sale will help a lot of people. We are extremely committed to helping DKMS to tackle this indiscriminate disease. We’re all hoping it fetches a good amount of money for such an important cause”.
How you can help
If you are aged between 17-55 and in good general health, please register for your home swab kit online.
It costs £40 to register one potential blood stem cell donor. We rely on monetary donations to help cover this cost.
Whilst the NHS is very supportive, it falls to charities like DKMS to reach out to potential lifesavers. Please join Fellows Auctioneers in helping DKMS to register even more potential lifesavers.
