DKMS operates in seven entities worldwide. In the majority of countries, registration is possible from the age of 17 or 18. However, in the UK young people from the age of 16 and onwards are legally empowered to make decisions relating to health and wellbeing. This is the reason why we have changed the starting age for registering stem cell donors to 16 years. As transplant physicians choose predominantly younger donors, our decision will provide the best outcome for blood cancer patients.
