Why does DKMS have the widest age range, while other charities stop registration younger?

We have seen frequently that older donors are chosen as the right match for a patient when no younger donor is available. However, the preference of transplant physicians are for younger donors, if they are available. This is the reason for DKMS to lower the starting age range to 16 years.
