Blood Cancer

What is radiation therapy?

Radiation therapy is used to specifically target tumours.

The radiation, which is similar to that in X-rays but considerably higher-energy, works by damaging the genetic makeup of the cancer cells. This stops the cancer cells from dividing even further, stopping the tumours growing and kills them off. The process also affects healthy cells, but these cells can regenerate.
