Footballer’s call for more to register as potential lifesavers

As many prepare for the start of the football World Cup, Southampton football club goalie Artur Boruc is calling for more people to register as blood stem cell donors. Artur’s call was inspired by baby Maksio from Poland, who has a blood cancer and needs a blood stem cell donation for his survival. Little Maksio could find a donor match in Poland, or it could be the UK, or one of the many countries who are hoping for success in the World Cup that have a blood stem cell registry.

As football teams from around the world come together to compete in the World Cup in Brazil, this highlights how we are all on the same team when it comes to finding a blood stem cell donor match.

So, whoever you are supporting in the World Cup, or even if you are avoiding it, join the most important team of all, the people who are on standby to save a life.
