Al Murray braves the shave for DKMS

Al Murray shaving his beard for DKMS DKMS ambassador Al Murray has been sporting a bold ‘lockdown look’ over the past few months. However, he is looking much more like his old self thanks to braving the shave this weekend – all in aid of DKMS!

The normally bare-faced comedian - one of the most enduring and well-known faces in the UK - had not shaved since before lockdown began. But to celebrate the re-opening of pubs in England at the weekend, he agreed to shave his beard to raise money for DKMS, and help fund our lifesaving work.

Record number of new donors

Over the weekend he raised more than £2000 for DKMS. This will fund the registration of approximately 50 new potential people to the blood stem cell register, each a potential lifesaver-in-waiting.

Al worked closely with DKMS last year to launch a campaign to find a match for his nephew. Al spoke passionately about the work of DKMS on some of the UK’s most high profile TV and radio shows, as well as The Daily Mail. This led to more than 30,000 registrations in a single weekend – a global record for DKMS.

Once again, a huge thank you to Al Murray for his continued support.

How you can help

It costs us £40 to register just one potential blood stem cell donor. While many of our supporters contribute towards the cost of their registration, not all are able to do so. Any funds you can donate, no matter the size, can make a huge difference and help to give blood cancer patients a second chance of life.
