Mao donated to a lady in the US whose only chance of recovery was a blood stem cell transplant from a complete stranger.
“A year ago, I went to London for a blood stem cell donation organised by DKMS. My blood stem cells were extracted in the UK and then sent to the U.S. to treat a blood cancer patient with no other hope of survival. After a blood stem cell transplant, the recovery process takes time. Today, the patient is not out of the woods, but she has been successfully transplanted and has also survived the 'magical' post-transplant 100 days.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who supported me in this experience including my family, my friends, everyone who has registered as potential donors in the last months as well as DKMS and the staff of the clinic, who arranged perfect coordination and medical jobs.
I cannot contact the patient directly yet, but I wish her all the very best and I hope she continues to fight. Anyone can be a potential blood stem cell donor, register today at DKMS.
Thank you all!”
