Marley, from Newport, loves being outside and gardening. His mum, Shaney, describes him as a “social butterfly”. In July 2018, Marley was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia and doctors have said his best chance of survival is to have a blood stem cell transplant. A search of the global register has returned no matches for Marley. Now, his family is campaigning to find #MarrowforMarley in the hope of finding him a matching blood stem cell donor. You could be the only person in the world who’s a match for Marley or someone like him. Join the stem cell registry today and go on standby to save a life.
Marley's diagnosis with aplastic anaemia
His mum, Shaney, says: “Marley is only six years old, and has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia after weeks of tests, due to feeling unwell and having a high temperature. You could be the person who saves my son’s life. All you have to do is sign up as a potential blood stem cell donor.
She adds “Not only is he my best friend, he is my son. He is a loving cousin, a kind friend, a caring nephew, the world’s best big brother and an even better grandson. [he] has taken his diagnosis all in his stride like thousands of other children in his position.
We are so proud of Marley and all the other amazing children and their families going through these tough times.
It’s that classic saying - you never think it’s going to happen to you.”
Marley's treatment for aplastic anaemia
Currently, Marley’s aplastic anaemia requires him to have blood transfusions to get essential red blood cells and platelets to stop bleeding and bruising. He is also set to undergo chemotherapy. The family were devastated when they discovered Marley’s younger brother George wasn’t a match. George was Marley’s best hope of finding a matching blood stem cell donor.
