Layla has medulloblastoma and is likely to need a blood stem cell donor to survive

In 2016 Layla, from Sonning, Berkshire, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer, Medulloblastoma and has been fighting for her life ever since after also suffering from two bone marrow failures.

Layla’s family is working hard to raise awareness and recruit blood stem cell donors in the likely event Layla that will require a blood stem cell donation herself.

“In the last 2 years, Layla has gone through more than any child should, but most of the time with a smile still on her face,” said Layla’s mother, Nimita.

“It’s very important for us to raise awareness about blood stem cell donation and increase registration, especially in the Black, Asian and ethnic minority community (BAME) which is highly underrepresented.”

On the outside, Layla is just like any other four-year-old girl. She loves Peppa Pig, playing doctors with her teddies and causing mischief with her brother and her best friend in the world, Dylan.

Since her diagnosis, Layla has had intensive surgery, high-dosage chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplants using her own stem cells, and suffered two bone marrow failures. It is now likely that Layla will require a blood stem cell transplant from a donor with similar DNA for the best chance of survival.

As such, Layla’s family is now proactively encouraging people to register as potential blood stem cell donors and give hope to all those in need of a blood stem cell donor.

Layla’s best chance of survival might be within you. Register as a blood stem cell donor today, whatever your heritage, and you’ll be one step closer to saving the life of someone like Layla.

Five minutes of your time might mean a lifetime for someone in need.

If you are already registered as a blood stem cell donor there’s no need to complete the process again but please continue to spread the word so we can find a match for everyone in need of a second chance.

If you have registered online but haven’t returned your swab kit, please do so as soon as you can. Otherwise we won’t be able to add you to the stem cell registry. If you have lost your kit and would like another, please contact us
