19 July 2017

Ed Sheeran is supporting the #JoinForJasmi campaign and is encouraging his Instagram followers to register as a potential blood stem donor with us. The post has attracted lots of attention and has inspired hundreds of people to register as potential blood stem cell donors in the last 13 hours, with more people registering as we speak. Thanks Ed and everyone who has registered and raised awareness!

Meet Jasmi
For the past three years Jasmi, 7, from Bury St Edmunds, has been battling with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia bravely. Devastatingly, she has relapsed for a second time and is back in hospital having chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Jasmi now urgently needs to find a matching blood stem cell donor to give her the best chance of survival and we’re supporting the search to help her find her potential lifesaver.

Jasmi is not alone in her search, around 70% of the blood cancer patients in the UK who need a transplant rely on an unrelated donor. As only one in three people looking for a blood stem cell donor will be lucky enough to find a suitable match within their own family.

Personal message from Rena
Jasmi is a caring and wise little girl who loves playing the piano, fashion and singing along to her favourite songs.

Jasmi’s mum Rena said: “To watch your child go through this is heartbreaking. Jasmi has pretty much spent her entire childhood in and out of hospital but she has been incredibly brave and strong. We’re ultimately looking for a stranger to help give Jasmi a second chance of life – you could be her potential lifesaver or anyone else living with a blood cancer. Please take a few minutes out of your day to register as a blood stem cell donor. You could be making such a difference to someone – thank you.”

Finding a match
Despite millions people registering as a potential blood stem cell donor worldwide, a match for Jasmi hasn’t been found neither on the UK stem cell registry, nor internationally.

Chances are that there is a match for Jasmi out there but that person hasn’t registered yet. This match could be you or one of your friends. That’s why we urge you to register as a potential blood stem cell donor and encourage your family and friends to do it too.

If you are aged between 17-55 please register as a potential blood stem cell donor today and help give Jasmi and others living with a blood cancer a second chance of life.

Help register more lifesavers
It costs us around £40 to register a blood stem cell donor. As a charity, we rely on monetary donations from the public to help cover these costs. Please help us register more potential lifesavers by making a money donation - every penny helps.
