DKMS Gala

The third annual Gala benefitting the lifesaving mission of DKMS

ABOUT THE GALA

Now in its third year, the DKMS Gala brings together over 500 key supporters who help raise awareness and crucial funds around registering more potential blood stem cell donors for blood cancer patients in need of lifesaving transplants.

The evening is comprised of a cocktail reception and seated dinner, which are accompanied by a thrilling live auction and a special musical performance by a headlining singer. The true highlight of the programme is the moment when a patient and their donor are brought together on stage to meet for the very first time.

DKMS History

Katharina Harf introducing donor Michael to his recipient Jack for the first time

DKMS began with one family’s search for a blood stem cell donor. In 1990, Peter Harf and his daughters went door-to-door in an effort to find a donor match for his wife and their mother, Mechtild Harf. They registered 68,000 donors in just one year.

Sadly, Mechtild lost her battle, but, in her honour, the Harfs started a blood stem cell donor centre (DKMS) that has since grown to be the world’s largest. DKMS operates in the US, Germany, the UK, Poland, Chile and most recently India. Globally, we have registered over 9 million donors and provided more than 79,000 patients with second chances at life.
