4 December 2014
Hundreds of people registered to go on standby to save a life with us on Tuesday. They all registered as part of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that takes place on the 2nd of December, which was celebrated in the UK for the first time this year.
Organised by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), #GivingTuesday is about ordinary people coming together to do extraordinary things. We encouraged people to register to go on standby to donate some of their blood stem cells to someone who needs them for their survival as one way to mark #GivingTuesday.
As part of the day, we held several recruitment events, including one at CAF. While Mike Mears, who donated some of his blood stem cells in the Summer, answered questions about what it was like to donate live on Facebook and Twitter.
As well as registering to save a life on #GivingTuesday, hundreds of pounds was raised through direct donations and fundraising activities to go towards covering the registration cost of new potential donors.
